Oct 2021 – Beautification Committee

The board approved a motion 5-0 to create a beautification committee for the community.

Dear Boxwood Green Neighbors,

We are blessed to be living in one of the truly great communities here in Smith Mountain Lake with our lovely views, serene woods, quiet roadways, and beautiful homes. However, our community is beginning to show its age.

Our neighborhood entrance sign is a prime example. The shrubbery and trees need to be replaced and the sign needs to be repainted. Another example is the shoulder along Boxwood

Green that was damaged from the installation of pipe by the Western Virginia Water Authority which exposed portions of clay despite their efforts to refresh the disturbed land.

Recently, we aerated the grasses along Boxwood Green and Richards Way, but there is more to do. And that is where you can help. If you have an interest in plantings and landscaping, perhaps you would like to join the new Beautification Committee. We want a neighborhood that we all enjoy and of which we are proud. We also want our community to impress our visitors and potential homebuyers. Your ideas can help. We recently had a suggestion to add benches for walkers. This is a great idea, both for our walkers and because of the welcoming message it gives to our visitors. Perhaps a few Crepe Myrtles, Mimosas, or a Cherry might add a touch of color. Maybe a few shrubs…  And what might we do along Richards Way?   Or the Boat Ramp?

Maybe you are more of a naturalist. Boxwood Green is working with Franklin County on the wooded land along Boxwood Green Drive that is part of the Smith Farm. This land is set aside as a nature area. Although portions of the land are currently being cultivated by Farmer (Mr.) Brown, the area is basically a preserve for environmental tradeoffs for County projects. There are also plans for nature trails in the wooded areas and along the lake.

So, please send me an email if you are interested in refreshing and enhancing our Boxwood Green Neighborhood as a member of the Beautification Committee.
